Burst of floral freshness

Agapanthus Spotlight

African Lily

A well-known and distinctive plant, Agapanthus look like fireworks at the top of
long sturdy stems. They are dramatic sun-loving perennials that come in
shades of blue and white and flower during summer.

Planting and Growing Conditions

Agapanthus are clump-forming perennials which are drought tolerant making
them low maintenance as they thrive in dry conditions and hot summers.  They
are best grown in containers where restricting their roots stimulates the
plants to flower more prolifically.  Established plants can be divided into small
clumps during the spring.

If your soil is prone to waterlogging or you live in a cold area which could act
like a frost pocket consider growing your agapanthus in a container as this will
enable you to protect your plant from frosts over the winter by moving it to a
light frost-free place such as a greenhouse or beside the wall of your house.

Don't forget to take some time to relax and admire the flowers in between your
watering, weeding and deadheading!

John Innes No. 3

We recommend using a peat-free compost such as John Innes No. 3 because it has a unique mix of loam, grit and fertiliser perfect for planting mature plants into their final position, feeding for up to 8 weeks.

We look forward to seeing you gardening this year,
